# Samaru

> Samaru is a private, offline-first journal app for iPhone and Android, published by Final Frontier Ventures (FFV). It combines rich-text journaling, mood tracking and habit tracking with no account and no journal sync. Entries stay on the phone in an encrypted database.

Samaru (සමරු) is Sinhala for "commemorative". The app is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play; both launch at the same time.

## Key facts

- No account, sign-up or login. There is no server that stores or syncs journal entries.
- Works fully offline. Entries, photos, voice notes, moods and habits are stored only on the device.
- The journal database is encrypted with SQLCipher, keyed from the Android Keystore or iOS Keychain. Photos and voice notes are encrypted with AES-256-GCM.
- Optional biometric or device-credential lock. The app-switcher preview is hidden on both platforms, and screenshots are blocked on Android.
- Mood tracking on a mood map, built-in and custom habits, and charts that show how habits and mood move together.
- Sentiment analysis runs on the device with an on-device model. Journal text is never sent to a remote AI model and is not used to train AI.
- Photos are stripped of identifying metadata (GPS location, camera model, capture time) before they are stored.
- Encrypted backups (AES-256-GCM, Argon2id password key), manual or scheduled, to a folder the user picks.
- Android extras: a home screen widget with quick capture (write without unlocking, never read), and optional notification-volume counts compared with mood.
- Share a single entry as a password-protected, signed file to another Samaru user.
- Import from Day One and Diarium exports.
- Pricing: a 14-day free trial with every feature, then a one-time in-app purchase to keep creating new entries. No subscription. Reading, editing, searching, exporting and backing up existing entries is never locked.
- The app contains no ads and no advertising or analytics SDKs. Crash reports go to Firebase Crashlytics and are designed to exclude journal content.
